How does a rain sensor for irrigation work?
The rain sensor contains hygroscopic discs that swell when they come into contact with precipitation. This mechanical expansion breaks the electrical circuit to the controller, stopping automatic watering and preventing water waste or soil oversaturation on rainy days.

Where should the rain sensor be placed?
The sensor should be installed in an open area, directly exposed to precipitation, such as the eaves of the house, a fence, or a pole. It should not be obstructed by tree branches, roofs, or other elements that could block rain from reaching it.

Is it mandatory to install a weather sensor?
Although the system can function without it, installing a weather sensor (rain/freeze) is highly recommended. It quickly recoups the investment by saving on water bills and protects plants from excess moisture that can favor the appearance of fungal diseases.

Are weather sensors compatible with any irrigation controller?
Most standard rain sensors are universal and compatible with almost any 24V or 9V controller that has dedicated sensor ports. However, smart sensors, based on complex weather stations, usually require controllers from the same range or brand.
